For the first time this season, both T. C. Williams High School basketball teams defeated a Patriot District rival. The girls beat Lee, 69-22 and the boys were also victorious over the Lancers, 69-59.
At home in The Garden, the Titan girls got a badly needed win. The game was close for the first quarter, which ended with T. C. ahead, 13-6. In the lopsided second quarter, the Titans set the tone for the game and led at the half, 36-9. After that, the Lancers could not catch up, scoring only 13 points in the second half. The final score was Titans 69, Lancers 22. The girls are now 4-8, overall, 2-4 in the Patriot District.
After their close call against South County earlier this week, T. C. came out playing poorly throughout the first half against Lee. In the first quarter, the Lancers led, 14-7 and finished the half with a six-point lead, 26-20. In the third quarter, the Titans closed the gap and were behind by only one, 45-44, going into the final period. During the fourth quarter, T. C. outscored Lee, 25-14, and won by ten, 69-59.
Senior center Billy Rowland led the way for T. C. with 17, followed by senior forward Darris Porter with 13 and senior forward Ryan Yates with 10. The boys will host powerhouse Montrose Christian on Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
