Kids can’t learn if they don’t feel well. It’s especially challenging if they’re lacking access to basic health care. In our ongoing efforts to raise student achievement, we must tackle these most basic challenges by making it easier for students to receive the health care they need. Jefferson-Houston Focus School
The Alexandria City School Board last week voted to reinstate Jefferson-Houston School as a city-wide focus school which will be part of the ACPS lottery. Formerly an arts integration focus school, Jefferson-Houston now will be a focus school for International Baccalaureate PYP and MYP Programmes and will feature the only ACPS K-8 program. Information about the ACPS lottery, including the deadline for applications, will be available later this month. Read Across America
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) will participate in the National Education Association’s annual Read Across America Day by holding a variety of fun and educational special events on Tuesday, March 2. Students, parents and staff will participate in a variety of activities to mark the nation’s largest reading-themed celebration, tied into the birthday of “The Cat in the Hat” author Dr. Seuss. Drama Department Fundraiser
Please join the T.C. Williams High School Drama Department for a fundraiser to benefit the department’s spring production of “Chicago.” The fundraising event will take place at zpizza, 3217 Duke St., in Alexandria Commons, on Monday, March 8. Just mention T.C. Williams’ Drama when paying for/picking up your order and Z Pizza will contribute a percentage of the purchase to the drama department.
