The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria announced that three new members were elected to the Board of Trustees – Dwight Dunton, John Leary and Terese Wilson. All are residents of the City of Alexandria who have strong records of community service and past involvement with the Fund.
Dwight Dunton is founder and president of Bonaventure Realty Group, LLC, a fully integrated real estate management and investment firm. Bonaventure currently owns and is performing a complete renovation and redevelopment of The Encore, a 461 Unit apartment complex in Alexandria as well as properties in Richmond, Virginia Charleston, South Carolina and Chesapeake, Virginia. Dunton is a member of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the National Multi-Housing Council, the Apartment and Office Building Owners Association and the Virginia Development Housing Authority.
A native of Alexandria, Dunton is a 1992 graduate of T.C. Williams High School. He received a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce in 1996. Dunton, his wife Sara and their three daughters reside in Alexandria.
John F. Leary is a partner and Executive Vice President of Washington Media Group, a strategic communications firm based in Washington, DC. WMG provides international, corporate, and industry association clients with communications solutions to a broad range of public policy and market challenges. A 20-year veteran of the public affairs arena, Leary founded the Opinion Leader Network™, an online advertising network optimized for public affairs campaigns.
A sixth-generation Alexandrian and 1987 graduate of T.C. Williams High School, Leary received his B.A. in Government and International Studies from The University of South Carolina in 1991. Leary and his wife Maureen have been active in the school community. Leary served as President of Maury Elementary School PTA, where his three sons attend school, and has served on the School Board Budget Advisory Committee and Health Advisory Committee. He has assisted the Scholarship Fund Board with implementing an online communications strategy to raise awareness of the Scholarship Fund’s important mission and accomplishments.
Terese Wilson is a founding partner and designer with Lehman Smith McLeish, an architectural design strategy firm headquartered in Washington, DC. She has overseen the design and construction of over 25 million square feet of award-winning office space around the world.
Residents of the North Ridge area Alexandria, Wilson and her husband Jim have been active in the ACPS school community at Cora Kelley Elementary School, George Washington Middle School, and T.C. Williams High School where their children attended. She has served on the Scholarship Fund’s Gala Committee and co-chaired the highly successful May 2010 event.
Established in 1986, The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is a not-for profit organization that partners with Alexandria City Public Schools and provides financial aid advising and scholarships to assist students in accessing and completing higher education.
