In early 2008, the Alexandria City Council made developing a small area plan for the Beauregard Corridor a priority. Last night, a new community-led group formed to provide direction to that process.

While many of Alexandria’s revenue resources are growing, home foreclosures in the City are increasing as well.

In September, the Alexandria City Council considered defining when rezoning applications could be approved without a formal master plan study. Last night, Council members deferred the matter until Saturday’s public hearing.

Last night, the Alexandria City Council directed City Manager Jim Hartmann to prepare a fiscal year 2012 budget that includes no increase in the residential real estate tax rate. Any increased spending will be based on increased revenue.

During the fiscal year 2011 budget process, the Alexandria City Council asked the Office of Management and Budget to prepare a list of the City’s contract costs. Last week, Budget Director Bruce Johnson gave Council that information.

On Saturday, the Alexandria City Council amended the Potomac Yard master plan to allow for additional surface parking, increased the allowable heights for buildings in some areas, transferred density among undeveloped blocks and accepted an up-front payment of $2 million, which will be used to help fund an Environmental Impact Study for a possible Metro station.
