COPS For Christmas

On Saturday, December 18, Alexandria COPS Officers played Santa Claus to nine Lynhaven and Hume Springs families. The officers, with assistance from the two civic associations, selected families in need who could use Christmas gifts and food for the holidays. The families have children between eight and 15 years of age.

Santa came early for more than 1300 Alexandria families last night. He arrived at the Charles Houston Recreation Center in a fire truck and dispensed good cheer to residents of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s properties.

ARHA And Charles Houston Recreation Center Host Santa’s Winter Wonderland

The staffs of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the Charles Houston Recreation Center (CHC) will host their second annual Santa’s Winter Wonderland. ARHA and CHR will welcome hundreds of children to a holiday celebration of Santa’s Winter Wonderland filled with gifts from Santa, music, food, mimes and a host of festive activities.

Lessons & Carols At Christ Church

In 1880, the Bishop of Truro, the Rt. Rev. F.W. Benson, devised a “little service of nine lessons and carols” for Christmas Eve at Truro Cathedral in the United Kingdom. The intent was to trace the history of human salvation through readings from Holy Scripture interspersed with carols and hymns of the season. Benson later became the Archbishop of Canterbury, and his little service has become an Anglican tradition in cathedrals, churches and collegiate chapels around the world – due in large part to the annual live broadcast from King’s College, Cambridge, that began in 1928.
