Café Nicole Gives Free Soup And Sandwiches To Homeless Over The Holidays

This holiday season, Café Nicole, 1125 Queen Street, has given a unique gift to homeless Alexandrians: Free ham and turkey sandwiches, cups of chicken noodle soup and coffee. The donations were made possible by the Burlimann family and a private donor.

COPS For Christmas

On Saturday, December 18, Alexandria COPS Officers played Santa Claus to nine Lynhaven and Hume Springs families. The officers, with assistance from the two civic associations, selected families in need who could use Christmas gifts and food for the holidays. The families have children between eight and 15 years of age.

Alexandria Fire Department Responds To High-Rise Apartment Fire

This afternoon, December 22, at 4 p.m., the Alexandria Fire Department, assisted by units from Arlington and Fairfax Counties, responded to a two-alarm fire in an unsprinklered, residential high-rise building at 5340 Holmes Run Parkway. Firefighters effectively extinguished the fire in a basement storage room, but smoke spread throughout the 16-story structure.

Carpenter’s Shelter Benefits From Dominion Donation

On Thursday, Dominion Resources announced that Carpenter’s Shelter in Alexandria would receive a $25,000 grant to help weatherize the facility. In all, Dominion’s EnergyShare program and organizations that provide shelter or housing assistance for the homeless and others in need received more than $2 million in donations. Dominion, one of the nation’s largest energy producers, announced that donations will help organizations in Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia and 11 other states.
