Café Nicole Gives Free Soup And Sandwiches To Homeless Over The Holidays

This holiday season, Café Nicole, 1125 Queen Street, has given a unique gift to homeless Alexandrians: Free ham and turkey sandwiches, cups of chicken noodle soup and coffee. The donations were made possible by the Burlimann family and a private donor.

“It’s the holidays and it’s cold,” Nicole Burlimann said. “This is a way to say thank you to the community for how it has welcomed my little café. I don’t think people should be hungry at this time of year. I realize what I’ve got and I want to share it with others.”

More than 50 lunches were given out between December 28 and 29. “My goal is to do this once a month from noon to 2:00 p.m.,” Nicole said.

Café Nicole, formerly Sarge’s Restaurant, opened its doors on May 14, 2010. The café sells coffee, full lunches and desserts. They are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday; 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sundays.
