T. C. Williams High School is wrapping up the fall sports season. Some teams are looking ahead to the play-offs while others have completed their 2010 seasons.

Field Hockey

Last night, the Titan field hockey team hosted the first round of the Patriot District tournament. T. C. finished fourth, giving them home field advantage against the Annandale Atoms, who finished fifth.

Both teams played well, with regulation ending in a 2-2 tie. In overtime, the Atoms scored the one goal they needed to advance to the second round of the Patriot District tournament. The Titans finish the season with an 11-7 record, 4-3 in the Patriot District.


The Titans continued their winning ways with a victory over Patriot District rival Woodson on Friday night. T. C. defeated the Cavaliers decisively, 40-21.

The Cavaliers scored first on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Andrew Mackay to Garrett Goewey. The Titans responded with two touchdowns: a 34-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Alec Grosser to senior Will Rossi and a 47 yard run by junior Zaquan Summers.

In the second quarter, Titan senior linebacker Damien Benton returned a Cavalier fumble for a touchdown and the Titans took a 21-7 lead into halftime. The Cavaliers scored two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter, tying the game at 21.

In the fourth quarter, the Titans scored 20 unanswered points. Senior place kicker Manuel Benites kicked field goals of 30 and 49 yards; Grosser completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Percy Haskins and Mohamed Sesay added a 18-yard touchdown run. The Titans are now 4-3, 3-1 in Patriot District competition. They will travel to West Potomac on Friday, Oct. 22 for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Wolverines.


The Titan volleyball team went to Annandale for a Patriot District match on Thursday, Oct. 14. The girls won in five, 3-2.

Last night, the Titans hosted another Patriot District rival, South County. The Stallions won in straight sets, 3-0. T. C.’s record is 6-8, 1-3 in Patriot District play. T. C. will travel to Woodson to face the Cavaliers on Thursday, Oct. 21. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
