At a special meeting today, the Alexandria Electoral Board elected Donald E. Ledwig as Secretary, Peter Newbould as Chairman, and newly appointed Bruce A. Brown as Vice-Chairman.
Ledwig, a 10 year veteran of the Board, served as Secretary of the Board from 2001 through 2003. According to Virginia Law, the Secretary is the senior member of local electoral boards. Ledwig currently is President of the Virginia Electoral Board Association.
The Alexandria Electoral Board elections came as a result of the resignation of former Electoral Board Secretary Anna Leider. Brown was appointed to the Board on July 23 by the Alexandria Circuit Court to complete Leider’s term.
Brown spent 34 years with the U.S. State Department most recently serving as Deputy Assistant Director for Legislative Affairs. He left the State Department in January of 2009 and currently is a management consultant for STG Inc.
Leider left the Board to accept appointment as Deputy Registrar effective Monday, August 2, replacing Ginny Franco who is retiring.
Local Electoral Boards in Virginia are bipartisan and appointed to govern the conduct of federal, state, and local elections.
