On Thursday, April 28, the Alexandria Police Department honored its 22 volunteers with a Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony. Volunteers were recognized for the vital service they provide to the police department on a daily basis.
Farmers Markets Open
This weekend, Alexandrians will know that Spring has truly come as all five farmers' markets will reopen. The farmer's market at City Hall is open year round but the other four-- Del Ray, West End, Upper King Street and Arlandria -- are open only six months of the year.
General Assembly Passes Redistricting Legislation…Again
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has agreed to sign redistricting legistlation that the General Assembly passed yesterday. There are no changes to Alexandria's House of Delegates and State Senate Districts.
The City will be represented by the two members of the House of Delegates from the 45th and 46th districts. Three State senators from the 30th, the 35th and 39th districts.

Alexandria Hazardous Materials Team Members cleared the GenOn Potomac River Generating Station yesterday afternoon. A private hazardous waste contractor performed the final remediation and cleanup from a sulfuric acid spill that occurred earlier that morning.
