ACT for Alexandria is pleased to announce that Gene Steuerle is the new Chair of ACT. Mr. Steuerle served as the Vice Chair of the organization for the past year. He is succeeding Allison DiNardo, who held the position of President and Chair for the past two years. Mr. Steuerle was a founding board member of ACT and he and his children were among those whose initial efforts and contributions made possible the creation of the Alexandria Community Trust, now known as ACT for Alexandria.
“It is an extraordinary honor to work with so many people who dig deeply into their wealth of talent and money to serve Alexandria—its people, its charities, and its government,” said Steuerle.
Lauren Garcia will serve as Vice Chair, Debra Collins as Secretary, and David DeJesus as Treasurer. New board members include: Caren Camp, Cathy Carney-Peters, Mimi Conger, Allison Erdle, Magaly Galdo-Hirst, Val Hawkins, Jeannie Hodges, Trip Howell, Neil Parent, and Heather Scott. Lyles Carr, Lisa Collis, Allison DiNardo, Robert Dugger, William Euille, Pierce Klemmt, David Markley, Lori Morris, Alice Paik, and David Speck will continue to serve on the Board of Directors.
ACT would like to recognize the new Advisory Council, comprised of former ACT board members including: Leslie Ariail, William Babcock, Jr., Kathy Barsness, Andrew Blair, Robert Calhoun, Kimberly Fiske, Harry Hopper, Brian Kennedy, Amy Liu, Scott Price, Mame Reiley, Stephen Rideout, Emily Rothberg, Cathy Thompson, Jean Traub, Jonelle Wallmeyer, and Rob Whittle. In their time as board members, these individuals helped incubate the ACT Family of Initiatives including: ACT Capacity Building Grants, ACT Now Fund, Alexandria Board Leadership Exchange, Alexandria Council of Human Service Organizations, The Giving Circle of Alexandria, Give Back Alexandria, Lotsa Helping Hands Partnership, Nonprofit Excellence Forum, and Spring for Alexandria. ACT is excited to launch its newest initiative, ACTion Alexandria, in February 2011.
“I’m extremely excited about the energy and enthusiasm of our Board and Advisory Council members. ACT has done much in its short history but there is still much to be done. I look forward to working with all involved to make 2011 a banner year for ACT and our community,” said John Porter, ACT executive director.
Launched in 2004, ACT for Alexandria (ACT) is a community foundation that seeks to raise the level and effectiveness of community engagement and giving for the benefit of all Alexandria.
