Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, a 2005 Cadillac sedan was southbound on Harrison Lane at a high rate of speed. The Cadillac failed to negotiate a sharp, left hand curve in the roadway and continued straight down the paved entrance to Huntley Meadows Park. The car then ran off of the park driveway, struck a tree and caught fire with the driver inside. Citizens attempted to free the driver but could not. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
The medical examiner will attempt to determine the driver’s identity during an autopsy. Alcohol and or drugs may be a factor. Speed was a factor.
