Moran Applauds Appointment Of Alexandria Resident Sherri Brown To VA Committee On Women Veterans

Congressman Jim Moran, Northern Virginia Democrat, today applauded the appointment of Alexandria resident Sherri Brown to the Department of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on Women Veterans.

“I congratulate Sherri Brown on her appointment to the VA Advisory Committee on Women Veterans. Through both her military and civilian life, Ms. Brown has served her country with pride and distinction,” said Rep. Moran. “Ms. Brown is an excellent addition to the committee whose role is to oversee the care and well-being of the fastest growing segments of our veterans population.”

Sherri Brown is a veteran of the Coast Guard Reserves. She currently serves as Senior Vice President for Service to the Armed Forces for the American Red Cross. Brown will serve on the advisory committee for two years.

Established in 1983, the VA Advisory Committee on Women Veterans makes recommendations to the Secretary for administrative and legislative changes. There are approximately 1.8 million women veterans, comprising nearly eight percent of the total veterans population. The VA estimates that by 2020, women veterans will comprise 10 percent of the veteran population.

Virginia’s 8th District is home to the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and more than 12,000 military retirees.
