Job Creation

Ranter: Charles Finely

Just what is Mrs. Ignacio's new responsibility within the school system? I am unclear how this new administrative position is in keeping with what the Superintendent prided himself on a few years ago.

Less Days = More Learning?

December 13th, 2011 | [From: Rants]

Ranter: Alice Webst

A few weeks ago I was shocked to get a notice telling me that my child would not attend school on Dec. 12. It was only this summer that the schools' Superintendent Morton Sherman was still floating the idea of petitioning the state to extend the school year before Labor Day.

No Gray Area

How many City officials does it take to decide whether a man who has admitted to stealing federal funds should be fired from his job as Deputy Director of General Services in Alexandria?

We Just Don’t Need That Kind Of Lunacy Here

November 6th, 2011 | [From: Rants]

The Alexandria Republican Committee CHOSE not to run opposing candidates against Delegates Charniele Herring and David Englin. This was by design, to suppress voter turnout. In fact, Republican State Senate Candidate Tim McGhee told me himself that is receiving NO HELP from the Alexandria Republican Committee. They didn't want a candidate opposing Adam Ebbin because, again, they are hoping that Democrats won't feel the need to vote, thus letting Republicans put an unqualified, neophyte ideologue in the Clerk's office.

The Measure Of Quality Education

October 21st, 2011 | [From: Rants]

Ranter: Tom Wise

What else could $72,000 provide within Alexandria City Public Schools? How about one or two additional special education teachers to meet the needs of Alexandria's special education students? Or 3-4 paraprofessionals to assist in the classrooms most in need of additional adult support?

The Waste And Terrible Condition Of The ACPS

October 13th, 2011 | [From: Rants]

It once was one of the best school systems in the country now one of the worst. And most expensive. We sacrifice the education of our kids, who want to learn and do well, for the acceptance and free admission of the kids of criminals, kids who have no interest in being in our schools. Kids who are hurting all the other students.

No Special Rules For Elected Officials

September 27th, 2011 | [From: Rants]

Ranter: Annabelle Fisher Shortly after Councilwoman Alicia Hughes was elected, Alexandrians learned that she had been taken to court for nonpayment of rent by the owners of The Strand Apartments where she lives.

Alicia Hughes Embarasses Alexandria Again

September 2nd, 2011 | [From: Rants]

According to public records, Councilwoman Alicia Hughes has been sued eight times in just three years for nonpayment of rent. Her job is in Delaware. Given these two facts, I doubt very much that she is a legitimate, full time resident of Alexandria.

Missing From The Chart?

I am in agreement with the ranter asking the "where's the beef" question about the happenings within ACPS amid the release of the new organizational chart.

Looks Good, But…

Another summer, another ACPS Central Office Organizational chart. First it was a flow chart, now it is something resembling the recycling symbol on our big blue plastic bins. Is this really what Alexandria's Superintendent has to offer our school system? More administrative musical chairs? More charts?
