ACT For Alexandria Welcomes New Board Members

ACT for Alexandria is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to the Board of Directors – Brooke Curran and Joyce Manchester.  Brooke Curran, also known as RunningBrooke, has committed to running a marathon on every continent, in each of the 50 states, and the five major marathons to raise money for Alexandria charities.  She has raised and given out $110,000 since 2009.  Joyce Manchester is the Chief of Long-Term Modeling Group at the Congressional Budget Office, as well as the Project Director for the Safer World Fund, a giving circle that supports education, training and health care for women and girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  While both have been involved in ACT for some time, we are pleased to welcome them to their new roles.

“We are pleased to welcome Brooke and Joyce to the Board.   Their caring and concern for others coupled with their commitment to ACT should prove valuable for the community,”   said John Porter, ACT executive director.

ACT is also pleased to announce the following members have been nominated and re-elected as officers of the organization:  Gene Steuerle – Chair, Lauren Garcia - Vice Chair, Debra Collins - Secretary, and David DeJesus - Treasurer.  The ACT Board of Directors includes:  Caren Camp, Cathy Carney-Peters, Lyles Carr, Mimi Conger, Robert Dugger, Allison Erdle, William Euille, Magaly Galdo-Hirst, Val Hawkins, Jeannie Hodges, Trip Howell, Pierce Klemmt, David Markley, Lori Morris, Alice Paik, Neil Parent, Heather Scott, and David Speck, Chair of the Advisory Council.  Mary Catherine Gibbs serves as Of Counsel for ACT.

ACT would like to recognize Allison Cryor DiNardo, a founding member and former chair.  Allison will transition to the ACT Advisory Council after many years of service in multiple capacities.  She has recently been appointed to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors.

“Allison’s charitable work is well-known to many, but I am especially indebted for her leadership at ACT as a founding member and the chair who helped take us to independent status, while re-organizing us to function efficiently and well on behalf of the Alexandria community,” said Gene Steuerle, ACT board chair.

The Advisory Council, comprised of former ACT board members includes:  Leslie Ariail, William Babcock, Jr., Kathy Barsness, Andrew Blair, Robert Calhoun, Kimberly Fiske, Harry Hopper, Brian Kennedy, Amy Liu, Scott Price, Mame Reiley, Stephen Rideout, Emily Rothberg, Cathy Thompson, Jean Traub, Jonelle Wallmeyer, and Rob Whittle.

The Board of Directors and Advisory Council have helped incubate the ACT Family of Initiatives including:  ACT Capacity Building Grants, ACTion Alexandria, ACT Now Fund, Alexandria Board Leadership Exchange, Alexandria Council of Human Service Organizations, The Giving Circle of Alexandria, Give Back Alexandria, Lotsa Helping Hands Partnership, Spring2ACTion, and Spring for Alexandria.
