The Truth About The End Of The Year

December 28th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions]

To the Editor:

It is the end of the year and time to reflect on what is important in life. It is time to ask, "What are we doing here?"

Christmas Hurrah!

December 26th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions]

Dear Editor,

The morning after Christmas was the time of George Washington's surprise attack on the Hessian troops at Trenton, NJ. The Continental Army was in desperate need of a victory to increase morale.

Let’s Learn To Prevent

December 18th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions]

To the editor:

We hear a lot about the need for “a conversation about gun violence in America.” Conversation is fine; so is research. But we have been having what passes for conversation on this topic for years; research on the subject abounds. It is time to take action.

What’s Next Alexandria Dialogue – Did It Succeed?

November 28th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions]

Opinion: Annabelle Fisher

I attended the first "What's next Alexandria" community dialogue meeting on Thursday, Nov. 15th. Needless to say, this was not a "kumbaya" moment by some residents in attendance and I know I requested that the agenda be changed wherein Mayor Euille said "no" and another resident attempted to state that it appeared there would be no public input and no residents in attendance would be heard until several future meetings had been completed.

This handbook is provided to the board members to remind them of the critical role they play in public education and to serve “as a guide to responsible action.”

National Community Foundations Week November 12-18, 2012

November 14th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions, Non-Profits]

Opinion: John Porter

Throughout our nation’s history, individual Americans have voluntarily joined together to meet important needs in their communities. From the early days of barn raisings to helping others in the aftermath of hurricanes like Sandy, this generosity and willingness to work together toward a common goal is the hallmark of the American character.

Thanks For Civic Participation

November 13th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions]

Letter to the Editor:

As I was collecting the yard signs this past Wednesday, I was struck by this thought. I thought about our fellow citizens that expressed themselves by running in the municipal and school board elections. I thought about the time, effort, energy, hopes, funding, and sheer determination they put forth to win elected office and to serve if elected.

Letter From Councilman Frank Fannon

November 9th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions]

Dear Alexandria,

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your City Councilman since July 2009. Unfortunately that will come to an end on December 31, 2012 as the votes did not go my way in Tuesday's election.

Keep Hunting Point Affordable

November 5th, 2012 | [From: Letters/Opinions]

A letter to Alexandria City Council Candidates:

Hello, City Council Candidate,

In 2007, I asked the U.S. Department of Transportation whether any provision of Federal law would permit Hunting Towers to be sold for less than “fair market value.”
