Update: Unlawful Detainer Case Against Hughes Nonsuited
On May 10, 2012 Councilwoman Alicia Hughes provided a request from Realty Management to nonsuit the unlawful detainer case against Hughes, which Realty Management filed in Alexandria General District Court on April 27. The request from Realty Management was filed in General District Court on May 8 and a copy was sent by Federal Express and email to Hughes at that time. On May 9, 2012, when AlexandriaNew first published the story below, the Court had not updated the on-line case information system.
According to the Alexandria General District Court online Case Information System, Councilwoman Alicia Hughes has once again been summoned to appear in General District Court to address an unlawful detainer suit.
Realty Management Services, the management company for The Stand Apartments where Hughes has lived since 2008, filed the unlawful detainer against Hughes on April 27. This is the tenth such suit Realty Management Services has filed against Hughes since 2008. Four of the unlawful detainers were filed in 2011.
In February, after Realty Management Services won a judgment against Hughes, she filed for a re-hearing and the case was subsequently nonsuited because Hughes reached an agreement with the company. At that time, Hughes said publicly that she was glad to have had her day in court and resolved the issues that led to the suits over non-payment of her rent. Now, however, those issues seem to have re-occurred less than three months later. Hughes' court date is scheduled for May 16.
Hughes was elected to City Council in May 2009, as an Independent. She has announced that she will run for re-election in November as a Republican. The Alexandria Republican City Committee will select candidates for City Council in a caucus that will be held in early June.
