The T.C. Williams Modern Dance Society held a Winter Recital at TC Williams High School on Friday night. The show featured nine modern dance numbers and two musical selections. The dance pieces were choreographed by Leah Valtin-Erwin and performed by the company dancers, with the exception of The Places Kept for Us, which was choreographed and performed by Ella Boissonnault. The pieces ranged from the pensive Scrap Metal, which was accompanied by violinist Evan Pfeiffer and pianist Ellen Broetzmann, to the whimsical Fiddlers, which was danced to klezmer music.

Pfeiffer also performed Ashokan Farewell, by Jay Ungar, and brought a lyrical, beautiful tone to the selection. Broetzmann also sang Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, accompanied by Sam Jones on vocals and guitar.

MDS was founded by T.C. senior Leah Valtin-Erwin in 2010. MDS offers free after-school classes to all interested students.
