Alexandria had a higher than expected voter turn-out for the Virginia Republican presidential primary. There were 5,115 votes cast, which is 6.6% of active registered voters. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney received 67.5% of the vote to Ron Paul received 32.5%.
In the 2008, just over 6000 Alexandrians voted in the Republican presidential primary. Turn-out may have been down this year because only two of the candidates were on Virginia’s ballot.
The General Election will be held on Nov. 6.
