Alexandria Police Investigate Robbery Series

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a series of commercial robberies that occurred during November and December of this year. Two suspects have robbed four 7-Eleven convenience stores in Alexandria and appear to be connected to several additional robberies in Fairfax County, Prince George’s County and Bladensburg, MD.

Former Alexandria City Councilwoman Alicia Hughes pleaded guilty to writing a bad check and was sentenced to six months in jail. The sentence was suspended pending one year of good behavior.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter announced that he will not seek a grand jury indictment against an elderly man in relation to an unintended death investigation. The incident that resulted in the death occurred on Oct. 24, 2016, at the Sunrise of Alexandria Senior Living facility located on Duke Street in the City.

Suffolk Man Charged With Attempting To Provide Material Support To ISIL

Lionel Nelson Williams, 26, of Suffolk, was charged today with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, a designated foreign terrorist organization. Williams was arrested yesterday in Suffolk and will have his detention and preliminary hearings on Tuesday morning at the federal courthouse in Norfolk.

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a bank robbery this afternoon at the Wells Fargo Bank in the Bradlee Shopping Center. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’10” tall with a large build. He was wearing a grey and black coat, blue jeans, grey and white tennis shoes, and a black baseball cap. There were no injuries.

City Resident Indicted For Reckless Driving In Vehicular Death Case

On, Dec. 12, the Grand Jury for the City of Alexandria returned an indictment related to the death of Gertrude Klackner, a 90 year-old City resident. Sherri L. Sybert, a 51 year-old Alexandria resident, was charged with Reckless Driving-Misdemeanor. This charge arose from a collision that occurred on Oct. 3, in the 300 block of Yoakum Parkway.
