The 21st Del Ray Halloween Parade was held on Sunday, Nov. 5, after being postponed because of inclement weather last week and in spite of not-so-great weather yesterday. The happy faces of the young who participated however seemed to say that the annual spectacle was worth the wait.

The parade began at Mt. Vernon Avenue, south of E. Bellefonte, and continued down to the Mount Vernon Recreation Center play fields at Mt. Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues. Children, pets, and strollers in costumes marched and showed off their finest and scariest Halloween garb.

At the fields, goodie bags for children were handed out (including healthy bags that did not have candy). Refreshments such as hot dogs were donated by 7-Eleven, apple cider, and cookies were provided. There was live musical entertainment provided by Mars Rodeo. There were Goblin Games and activities for the children.

Prizes were awarded in the following Pet Costume Competition Categories: Creative, Team, How Could You Do This To Me?, and Vola Lawson Best of Show.  Stroller Competition Categories included: Creative, Humorous, Best Group or Family, Less is More, and Overall. There were also Best Decorated Home and Best Decorated Business Contests. The Del Ray Halloween Parade is sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association.
