Warner And Kaine Announce $8.4 Million To Assist Virginia Immigrant Children In Need

U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) announced nearly $8.4 million in funding for organizations in Virginia working to provide unaccompanied minors who fled violence in Central America with services including temporary shelters and foster care programs. These grants will help organizations in Arlington, Bristow, and the Shenandoah Valley fund services for the children.

For the fifth consecutive year, Historic Christ Church will be at King Street Metro offering Ashes to Go to morning commuters from 6:30–9:30 a.m. on Ash Wednesday, March 1. Ashes to Go will be offered at two other locations in Alexandria. Clergy members will be available for a simple prayer of confession, followed by the imposition of ashes with the traditional words, and ending with a bidding of peace.

The U.S. Marshals Service is warning the public of a nationwide telephone scam involving individuals claiming to be U.S. marshals, court officers or law enforcement officials seeking to collect a fine in lieu of arrest for failing to report for jury duty. The U.S. Marshals Service does not call anyone to arrange payment of fines over the phone for failure to appear for jury duty or any other infraction.

Construction Project At Theodore Roosevelt Island Parking Lot Begins March 1

On March 1, the National Park Service will begin a project to repave the parking lot and realign the Mount Vernon Trail at Theodore Roosevelt Island. To ensure visitor safety, the parking lot will be closed until the project’s completion, expected to be late spring. Pedestrians will have access to the island throughout the project and cyclists can bypass construction via a short detour on the Mount Vernon Trail.
