The 2017 Ellen Pickering Environmental Excellence Award has been awarded to Katharine Dixon, president and chief executive officer of Rebuilding Together Alexandria. The ninth annual award was presented yesterday during Alexandria Earth Day 2017 by Alexandria Renew Enterprises and the Alexandria Environmental Policy Commission.

Argument Resulted In Fatal Shooting Of Alexandria Man

Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred April 29 at a business in the 5700 block of General Washington Drive in the Alexandria-area of Fairfax County. The man killed was Enrique R. Vanterpool, 27, of Alexandria. The investigation continues. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Dana Boente Appointed Acting Assistant Attorney General Of The National Security Division

Attorney General Jeff Sessions today announced the appointment of Dana Boente as Acting Assistant Attorney General of the National Security Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. Boente succeeds Acting Assistant Attorney General Mary McCord, who recently announced that she would be departing in May. Boente had been serving as the Acting Deputy Attorney General since Jan. 30, 2017. He has served and will continue to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Update (April 28): Ernest Eugene Reigh was captured this afternoon in Burlington, VT. Reigh is a Florida registered sex predator who vanished after being released from state prison March 1 and failing to register his address with the St. Lucie County Jail.
