Nearly 80 Alexandria inmates got a head start on their reentry preparation by exploring services and programs at the recent resource fair at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center. Organized by the Sheriff's Office Inmate Services staff and held on Thursday, February 9, the first-ever resource fair featured more than 20 exhibitors who offer legal, employment, health, training, housing and other services that can benefit ex-offenders as they return to the community.

Inmates scheduled to be released before June attended the fair and met with exhibitors providing services, like transitional housing, peer support, and legal counseling, which may aid them in their reentry to their community. Mayor Allison Silberberg also attended the event and encouraged the participants to do great things in the next chapter of their lives. She also recognized the local charities, government agencies and private sector employers for their involvement in the resource fair.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks the following organizations and agencies for participating in the resource fair: Legal Services of Northern Virginia, Workforce Development Center, Together We Bake, Offender Aid and Restoration, Guesthouse, OCS Homelessness & Safety Net Services, 1st CDL Training, Alexandria Sexual Assault and Domestic Abuse Programs, Alexandria Detox Phase II Program and Substance Abuse Services, Charles Houston Recreation Center, Aramark, Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria, Miller & Long Concrete Construction, Arm & Arm, DMV Connect, Alexandria City Public Schools, Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia Veteran and Family Support, Department of Corrections Probation and Parole District 36, Neighborhood Health, and Department of Community and Human Services Public Benefits and Entitlements.
