Business leaders once again donated numerous children’s gifts to The Campagna Center Holiday Store.  During their annual holiday meeting on Dec. 13 at Belle Haven Country Club, members of Old Town Alexandria Connections for the fourth time brought gifts for young children that were delivered to The Campagna Center later that day.

Dozens of Charles Barrett Elementary students will start off the new year with brand new athletic shoes, thanks to donations from several Alexandria Sheriff’s Office employees. This holiday season, the Sheriff’s Office staff partnered with Charles Barrett for the Panda Soles project to provide new athletic shoes to Barrett students in need.

Chabad Lubavitch of Alexandria-Arlington hosted a community-wide grand Chanukah celebration last night at the Lyceum in Old Town Alexandria. Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown was honored with lighting the center candle of the six foot Menorah.

Santa Claus came to Old Town! On Saturday, Dec. 16, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and Happy the Elf greeted and took free photos with the public at Alexandria’s City Hall Market Square. The event was a holiday success with more than 250 people braving the chilly weather to give their wish list to Santa.

Filipino Community Celebrates 500-year Christmas Tradition

Each year, the Filipino community in the Catholic Diocese of Arlington participates in ‘Simbang Gabi’ (Filipino for “Night Mass”). It is a long-treasured Philippine tradition where worshipers attend Mass for nine consecutive days from Dec. 15–24 in preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ.
