Alexandria Celebrates Chanukah

Chabad Lubavitch of Alexandria-Arlington hosted a community-wide grand Chanukah celebration last night at the Lyceum in Old Town Alexandria. Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown was honored with lighting the center candle of the six foot Menorah.

Each year, the Filipino community in the Catholic Diocese of Arlington participates in ‘Simbang Gabi’ (Filipino for “Night Mass”). It is a long-treasured Philippine tradition where worshipers attend Mass for nine consecutive days from Dec. 15–24 in preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ.

Bowling Green To Have 500+ Acres Hindu Retreat

An over 500 acres of serene and vibrant Hindu spiritual retreat has reportedly been planned near Bowling Green in Virginia, which is expected to open in the summer of 2019. Known as Devasya and run by global charitable group International Swaminarayan Satsang Organization, it reportedly plans to spend over $7 million just on improvements of the existing heavily wooded property which has an open-water lake.
