Five Charged With Murder Of Gaithersburg Teen

Fairfax County detectives have obtained charges for murder against five suspects, two adults and three teenagers, involved in the gang-related death of 15-year-old Damaris Alexandra Reyes Rivas of Gaithersburg, MD. Those charged with murder are:

  • Jose Ivan Castillo Rivas, 18, 5800 block of Brunswick Street, Springfield VA
  • Wilmer A. Sanchez Serrano, 21, of no fixed address
  • A 17-year-old girl of the Alexandria area of Fairfax County
  • Two 17-year-old boys; one of Annandale, the other of Springfield VA

All ten suspects involved in the victim’s abduction and murder are in custody. Two suspects are awaiting extradition to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Fairfax County police determined Reyes Rivas was held against her will, taken to Lake Accotink Park and assaulted before she was killed and left nearby in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road in Springfield, on or around Jan. 8. Her remains were found on Feb. 11. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide. The victim suffered multiple forms of trauma to the upper body. Reyes Rivas was reported missing from Montgomery County, MD, on Dec. 10, 2016.

Several agencies have been coordinating on this investigation and other related cases, including the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force, Prince William County Police, Prince George’s County Police, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations.
