Historic Demaine Funeral Home Completes Restoration

Dignity Memorial’s Demaine Funeral Home invites all to celebrate its grand reopening to view the newly remodeled and restored building that has been a staple in the Alexandria, Va. community since the early 1920s. Until now, the building has remained largely unchanged for over 60 years. On Thursday, Nov. 9, Demaine Funeral Home will host an open house from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Prior to World War I, the funeral home was a shoe factory that transformed into a chapel to serve the surrounding community. In the late 1940s, the Demaine family association, the same owners whose grandfather built George Washington’s mahogany casket, bought the building to serve Northern Virginia’s most respected families and community, and has occupied the historic site ever since.

The open house will include a free tour of the neo-colonial location, catered dinner, a raffle and a dedication ceremony.
