The T. C. Williams High School girls’ basketball team defeated George C. Marshall 50-27 in the first round of the state tournament on March 3. The Lady Titans (23-5), Region C Runner-Up, now face Langley (20-7), Region D Runner-Up, in the state semifinals on March 6.

The Lady Titans led 8-5 after the first quarter and 15-11 by halftime. But the third quarter was all about the Titans. They outscored the Statesmen 15-0, ending the quarter with a 30-11 lead. Both teams flourished in the fourth quarter but the Lady Titans held onto their commanding lead, finishing with a 23-point victory over Marshall, the 2018 Region D Champs.

T. C. Williams, three-time district champions, advances to the state semifinals. The last time the Lady Titans qualified for the state tournament was in 2011, which was Coach Kesha Walton’s first year as T. C. Williams Head Coach. The Titans lost in the first round of the tournament to Princess Anne, the eventual state champion.

The T. C. Williams / Langley semifinal game will be played at James Robinson Secondary School on Tuesday, March 6 (7 p.m.). This is the last chance to see the Lady Titans in action locally. The state championship is at VCU’s Siegel Center in Richmond on Thursday, March 8 (6 p.m.).
