ALIVE!-Boy Scout Food Drive-Nov. 10, 2018 
Volunteers are needed at the ALIVE warehouse (801 S. Payne St., Alexandria), to receive food drive donations in the morning and for food sorting in the afternoon. Register online.

ALIVE!-Empty Bowls Fundraiser-Nov. 10, 2018 
ALIVE! Is the oldest private social services safety net serving low income families in the City of Alexandria. Volunteers are needed to help with this major fundraising event to serve food and beverages and to clean up after the event. The event consists of a light supper, raffle, and entertainment and will be held at 1605 Cameron Street in Alexandria. Register online.

 ALIVE!-Friday Family Food Volunteer-through December 2018 
The ALIVE! Friday Food Volunteer sorts donated food items, discards foods which are unsafe to consume, organizes the food shelf, and bags food for up to 32 preschool families.  This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in a career in nonprofit/social services careers, need community services hours, or want to learn more about ALIVE!  Volunteer two to three times a week, Tuesday through Thursday in the afternoon. Child and Family Network Centers-Receptionist/Office Volunteer through October 2019 
CFNC is seeking a receptionist/office volunteer for our offices and two preschool classrooms. Duties include, answering the door and telephone, greeter, and assist with basic administrative tasks such as filing or copying. Volunteer shifts are Monday through Friday, from 8-10am and 2-6pm. Church of the Resurrection-Move the West End Pantry-Oct. 27, 2018 
The West End Food Pantry is moving and needs volunteers to help load boxes of food, shelving, and two appliances onto the truck, and then unload at the new location. Register online.

Community Lodgings-Budget Mentors/ Financial Advisor for Homeless Families 
Expert Budget Mentor volunteers from local banks are needed for our Transitional Housing Program to help homeless families to reach self-sufficiency. Meetings are scheduled based on availability of families and volunteers. Register online.

Communities in Schools of NOVA-Tutors -Multiple opportunities available through June 2019 
Volunteers needed to help support Adult English Language Learners in our city! Classes are held from 6:30 p. m.-8:30 p. m, Monday through Thursday at Hammond Middle School. Register online. Math and Language Arts tutors are needed for a minimum of one hour per week between 8:30am and 3:00pm, Monday through Friday or Saturday from 9am until noon. Meade Memorial Episcopal Church-Saturday Hot Meal-Ongoing through Spring 2019 
Be a part of Meade Memorial Episcopal Church mission to serve those in need. Partner by becoming a volunteer and serve hot meals to Alexandria’s vulnerable residents. Meals are provided by DC Central Kitchen and volunteers ONLY need to re-heat and serve meals on Saturday between 12:30 p. m.-1:30 p. m. Register online. 

Tails High, Inc. Animal Shelter-Cat Caretaker/Feeder-Ongoing Volunteers 18 years and older (or children helping a parent), are needed to clean cages and help feed a few shelter cats located in a pet supply store in Del Ray, Alexandria.  Breakfast and dinner shifts are available and training will be provided. Volunteer Alexandria-Children fight hunger by making sandwiches-Nov. 3, 2018 
Children between the ages of 6 and 12 are invited to join our effort by making 75 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to fight hunger. A published report in 2014 showed that 29,000 Alexandrians live near or below the official poverty threshold. Children will prepare sandwiches using gloves, assemble them, and package them in sandwich bags. Register online.

 Volunteer Alexandria-Snow Buddies Program through April 2019 Volunteers are needed to provide snow removal to low-income Alexandria residents who are physically unable to shovel, can’t afford to pay for this help, and/or do not have neighbors, family, or friends to assist them. This program is vital to seniors who need to leave the house to get to hospital or doctor’s appointments for life-saving treatments such as dialysis. Depending on the severity of the storm, snow must be removed from sidewalks 24-72 hours after snow stops falling. Register online.

Volunteer Alexandria-Smoke Alarm Installation and Emergency Preparedness Fair-Oct. 20, 2018 
In partnership with the Alexandria Fire Department and the American Red Cross we are proud to present this opportunity to help prepare our community for fires. We need volunteers to spread information on the danger of fire and to help install smoke detectors in people’s homes. A small breakfast and lunch will be provided to all those who volunteer to help with the installation.  Register online. Seeking volunteers to join our Truck Team and help to pick up donations of furniture and household items throughout the region for the families served. Additionally, seeking volunteers to help to collect and distribute furniture and other basic need items for the families we serve. Alexandrians Involved Ecumenically (ALIVE!)-Multiple Opportunities Available-Ongoing 
Volunteers needed to help many programs.  Help low income families settle into their new homes by picking up and delivering furniture. Support the Family Emergency Program in 1 of 3 ways: desk volunteer, food packer or driver. Prepare and sort donated housewares for distribution to those in need. Coach with Girls on the Run-Fall Season-Multiple Opportunities Available through October 2018

DCHS Holiday Sharing Program to Register Families in October 2018 
The Department of Community and Human Service is seeking volunteers to assist with registering families to receive gifts from the Annual Holiday Sharing Program. Volunteers will enter information from the parent of an eligible family in the wish list database. Spanish speakers are particularly encouraged to assist. Reading Tutor at Local Elementary School-October 2018-May 2019 
Volunteers needed during the school day, once or twice a week to tutor a kindergarten or first grade student in reading. Each session will be 30 to 45 minutes long. Training, materials, and support will be provided. Register online.

Space of Her Own-Ongoing 
At Space of Her Own, preteen girls experiment with art and uncover unique talents with the encouragement of caring mentors. Girls are paired with professional adult female volunteers and engage in visual arts and life skill lessons to open their words to new possibilities. Pairs meet in a group setting one night a week for the initial program year, which culminates in a team effort to give each girls' bedroom a makeover. Register online.

The Campagna Center-Multiple Opportunities Available through January 2019 
The Wright to Read program provides volunteer-based one-on-one sustained literacy tutoring and mentoring relationships to City of Alexandria elementary school children who are reading one year below grade level. Support the Building Better Futures program and assist with carrying out BBF program activities related to tutoring and enrichment, as well as assist program staff with other components of the BBF program (e.g. parent education, recruitment and retention).
