Arts on the Horizon-“Mr. Bear 2018” Volunteers-Nov. 29-Dec. 15, 2018 
AOTH is seeking volunteers to help with front of the house for their exciting “Adventures with Mr. Bear!” show on Quaker Lane in Alexandria. Come greet people tall and small, and guide them into the fun lobby and theatre. Register online. 

Community Toy Drive-December 2018 
Volunteers are needed to help sort and count donated toys to prepare them for distribution the next day. Organizations are also needed to serve as a collection point for donated toys. Register online. Volunteers are needed to assist with the Holiday Sharing Family Gift Distribution to check-in gifts, check-out for families picking up gifts, transportation, and reminder calls to sponsors. Creative Artists Network 4 Social Causes-through Dec. 31, 2018 Invitation to area photographers, illustrators and all artists. Meade Memorial Episcopal Church-Saturday Hot Meal-Ongoing through Spring 2019 
Be a part of Meade Memorial Episcopal Church mission to serve those in need. Partner by becoming a volunteer and serve hot meals to Alexandria’s vulnerable residents. Meals are provided by DC Central Kitchen and volunteers ONLY need to re-heat and serve meals on Saturday between 12:30p.m.-1:30p.m. Register online.

Symphony Orchestra-General Administration Volunteer-Ongoing 
Help prepare mailing materials to be sent to potential donors for the 75th anniversary campaign. You may volunteer anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. A two hour block of time is requested. Register online. 

Tails High, Inc. Animal Shelter-Cat Caretaker/Feeder-Ongoing 
Volunteers 18 years and older (or children helping a parent), are needed to clean cages and help feed a few shelter cats located in a pet supply store in Del Ray, Alexandria.  Breakfast and dinner shifts are available and training will be provided. Register online.  

Volunteer Alexandria-Emergency Preparedness Outreach–Multiple Opportunities Available-Ongoing 
Interested in raising awareness and educating others how to prepare for emergencies? We need 2-4 volunteers to help us distribute emergency preparedness materials at locations throughout Alexandria. Register online. 

Volunteer Alexandria-Snow Buddies Program through April 2019
Volunteers are needed to provide snow removal to low-income Alexandria residents who are physically unable to shovel, can’t afford to pay for this help, and/or do not have neighbors, family, or friends to assist them. This program is vital to seniors who need to leave the house to get to hospital or doctor’s appointments for life-saving treatments such as dialysis. Depending on the severity of the storm, snow must be removed from sidewalks 24-72 hours after snow stops falling. Register online.

Communities in Schools of NOVA-Tutors-Multiple opportunities available through June 2019 
Volunteers needed to help support Adult English Language Learners in our city! Classes are held from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday at Hammond Middle School. Math and Language Arts tutors are needed for a minimum of one hour per week between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or Saturday from 9am until noon. Register online.

Family Services

ALIVE! Warehouse Manager, Program Chair, Truck Drivers-Multiple Opportunities Available-Ongoing 
ALIVE! is a community based non-profit dedicated to helping improve the quality of life for low-income residents in Alexandria, VA through a variety of services. Volunteer opportunities are available year-round and include assisting with: tutoring, food distributions on the last Saturday of the month, furniture and household goods deliveries, and family emergency food deliveries.
