Chance For Life, the Washington region’s premier non-profit focused on support of pediatric cancer research, announced today the appointment of Maria Booker as Executive Director. Booker is an experienced non-profit strategist whose work will focus on building the profile of the organization’s spring poker tournament and taste experience, as well as year-round public programming and messaging to support local patients, families and survivors.

Chance For Life provides 100% of net proceeds to help fund vital pediatric cancer research at Children’s National Health System and through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Booker brings to the organization a decade of experience focused on human services, working between local government systems and communities to build awareness and find solutions for those she serves.

Brad Nierenberg, Founder of Chance For Life and Chairman of the Board of Directors said of Booker’s appointment, “We are excited to have Maria on board with Chance For Life as we transition in to our first season of work as a year-round nonprofit.””

For the last nine years, Booker has dedicated her career to enhancing to the work of the non-profit sector, increasing annual event revenues, connecting organizations to multi-year donor partnerships, and building grant portfolios and income oversight to guide fundraising relationships. Most recently, she served as Head of Corporate Partnerships at the Capital Area Food Bank, where she built lasting relationships to fight hunger, support transitional housing projects and other human service initiatives throughout the Washington region and the state of Virginia.

Booker graduated from Christopher Newport University with a degree in English Literature and currently resides in Alexandria, VA, her hometown, and home to the Chance For Life headquarters.

Since being founded in 2005, Chance for Life has raised over $4.3 million dollars for pediatric cancer research, and Booker will aim to continue the organization’s legacy of high-impact initiatives. For more information, please visit
