Anthony “Tony” Johnson, a research associate in the Joint Advanced Warfighting Division at the Institute for Defense Analyses was
honored by the Diversity in National Security Network and New America as one of 35 Black American experts in U.S. national security and foreign policy whose contributions are making a difference in the national security sector.

“Tony is among an excellent list of experts and leaders in U.S. national security and foreign policy,” said Daniel Chiu, JAWD Director. “His expertise and contributions to national security are remarkable and I look forward to his continued service and leadership.”

“It is a great honor to be included in the list of Black American National Security and Foreign Policy Next Generation Leaders,” said Johnson. “I would like to thank New America, the Diversity in National Security Network, and Better Life Lab for this prestigious recognition.”

According to the Diversity in National Security Network, selection is based on excellence and leadership; their current work in national security or foreign policy; and their contributions to their issues of expertise through thought leadership.

 Johnson is the chairman of the board of fellows at Norwich University College of Liberal Arts, a fellow with the Truman National Security Project and the founder of the TruDiversity Initiative, and a board member on the Council for Equity and Inclusion for U.S. National Security and Global Engagement at the Open Society Policy Center. Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree in international studies from Norwich University in 1994 and his master’s degree in security studies from Georgetown University in 2018. IDA is a not-for-profit corporation that operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers  in the public interest.

IDA provides objective analyses of national security issues and related national challenges, particularly those requiring extraordinary scientific and technical expertise.
