Winter sports at T. C. Williams High School are fully underway. Sports include boys and girls basketball, gymnastics, indoor track & field, swim/dive, and wrestling. A summary follows of contests for the week of Dec. 3-8. The highlight of the week was the Titans winning their first-ever Alexandria City Swim and Dive Championship.

Swim & Dive
T. C. Williams won the annual Alexandria City Swim and Dive Championship on Dec. 4, defeating St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes and Bishop Ireton. The Titans claimed the coveted Mayor’s trophy for the first time in school history. The annual competition started in 1999. See related article. T. C. Swim/Dive also had a dual meet at Washington-Lee on Dec. 7. This week the T. C. Swim/Dive team takes on Hayfield at the GW RECreation Center on Dec. 14 (6:30 p.m.).

Boys Basketball
The T. C. Williams boys’ varsity team clinched a 66-64 victory in overtime against Oakton on Dec. 4. Senior Jaquan Johnson-Terry led the Titans with 25 points. The Titans also competed in the renowned Sleepy Thompson Tournament at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes on Dec. 6-8. T. C. Williams lost 81-61 to host SSSAS in their first game on Dec. 6. Johnson-Terry and junior Ricardo Ross each had 14 points against the Saints. Carmel School defeated T. C. Williams 70-65 on Dec. 7, and Trinity Episcopal won 65-50 on Dec. 8. This week the T. C. boys host Forest Park at T.C. Williams on Dec. 13 (Fr 4:30 p.m., JV 5:45 p.m., Varsity 7:15 p.m.).

Girls Basketball
The T. C. girls’ varsity basketball team dismantled regional powerhouse Oakton on Dec. 4. The Lady Titans led the Cougars 18-15 at halftime and 32-25 at the end of the third quarter. T. C. Williams closed out the game with 18 points in the fourth quarter to capture a 50-35 victory. On Dec. 7, the Lady Titans defeated the Yorktown Patriots 83-62 to remain undefeated (3-0). Senior Trinity Palacio led the Titans with 24 points, senior Sasha Bates added 19 points and junior Halle Walker contributed 16 points. This week T. C. Williams, No. 14 in the latest Washington Post ranking, hosts No. 15 New Hope Academy on Dec. 12 (Fr 4:30 p.m., JV 6:00 p.m., Varsity 7:30 p.m.). The Lady Titans also are competing in the She Got Game Classic tournament at New 24 Gym, Upper Marlboro MD on Dec. 14-15. They face Glenn, NC on Friday (5:30 p.m.), and Henderson, PA on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).

Gymnastics
The T. C. Williams gymnastics team competed against Falls Church, Madison, Marshall, and McLean on Dec. 3. This week the Titans’ meet is against Fairfax, Madison, Robinson, South County, TJ, and West Springfield at James Madison High School on Dec. 12 (6:30 p.m.).

Indoor Track & Field
On Dec. 8, the T. C. Williams track and field team competed in the first in a series of meets held at Episcopal High School against other schools in the region. The next regional meet is at Episcopal’s Flippin Fieldhouse on Dec. 15 (7 a.m.).

Wrestling
The Titans competed in the NOVA Classic tournament at Fairfax High School on Dec. 7-8. This week the varsity squad hosts Wakefield and Lee at T.C. Williams while the JV squad hosts Annandale, South County, W.T. Woodson and Justice – both on Dec. 12 (6 p.m.).
