Winter sports at T. C. Williams High School are in full swing. Sports include boys and girls basketball, gymnastics, indoor track & field, swim/dive, and wrestling. A summary follows of contests for the week of Dec. 10-15.

Boys Basketball
The T. C. Williams boys’ varsity team notched a 63-57 victory in a close contest against Forest Park at home on Dec. 13. The teams were locked in a 19-19 tie at the end of the first quarter. The Titans held a narrow 37-35 lead at halftime and 50-48 advantage at the end of three quarters before posting a 13-9 lead in the final period to clinch the victory. The T. C. boys have two home games this week: Herndon on Dec. 17, and Robinson on Dec. 19 (Fr 4:30 p.m., JV 5:45 p.m., Varsity 7:15 p.m.).

Girls Basketball
The T. C. girls’ basketball team hosted No. 15 New Hope Academy (9-1) on Dec. 12. The varsity girls dropped their first game of the season, falling to the New Hope Tigers 71-55. Senior Trinity Palacio led the Titans with 23 points; junior Halle Walker and freshman N’ja Hopkins each added 10 points. The Lady Titans also played in the competitive She Got Game Classic tournament on Dec. 14-15. T. C. Williams defeated Glenn (NC) 56-45 on Friday and toppled Henderson (PA) 49-34 on Saturday. The No. 12-ranked Lady Titans (5-1) are not in action this week.

The T. C. Williams gymnastics team competed in a meet with Fairfax, Madison, Robinson, South County, Thomas Jefferson and West Springfield on Dec. 12. The gymnastics team is not competing this week.

Indoor Track & Field
On Dec. 15, the T. C. Williams track and field team competed against Edison and Marshall in the second in a series of meets held at Episcopal High School against other schools in the region. Both the T. C. boys and girls squads earned top scores in team results. Individually, Titans captured 1-2-3 in the triple jump, led by sophomore Joshua Peterson, followed by sophomore David Coles and senior Shaikimam Sankoh, who also took second place in both high jump and 55 meter hurdles. Peterson also won boys long jump and Coles finished second. Titans made a clean sweep in boys pole vault. In running events, the T. C. boys won the 4x200 meter relay narrowly edging out Marshall. Junior Robert Longerbeam won the 55 meter dash. Freshman Yoyo Damte finished second in the 1000 meter run. Victor Vassallo took second in the 500 meter dash followed by Titus Ward in third. For the T. C. girls, senior Louisa Obenwa took first place in 55 meter hurdles and the 300 meter dash. Titans dominated girls shot put: junior Zaira Bridges took first, senior Courtney Holford finished second and freshman Wisdom Williams placed third. In pole vault, senior Kendra Oguamena took first place and junior Mariama Sangare finished second. Senior Nyla Ward won girls long jump. The T. C. girls also won the 4x800 meter relay. The Titans compete next in the PR Holiday Invitational at Prince George’s Sportsplex on Dec. 22.

Swim & Dive
T. C. Swim/Dive won across the board in a dual meet against Hayfield on Dec. 14. Boys 172-140; Girls 161-153 for a Combined: 333-293 victory. The Titans compete next against Falls Church High School at the Lee District Recreation Center on Dec. 21 (8:30 p.m.).

T.C. Williams hosted a tri-meet against Wakefield and Lee on Dec. 12. This week the varsity squad competes in the SSSAS Holiday Classic at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes on Dec. 21 (9 a.m.). The Titans also are competing in a tournament at Langley High School on Dec. 22 (all day).
