Winter sports at T. C. Williams High School are in full swing. Sports include boys and girls basketball, gymnastics, indoor track & field, swim/dive, and wrestling. A summary follows of contests for the week of Dec. 17-22. Some of the teams are in action over Winter Break.

Boys Basketball
The T. C. Williams boys’ varsity team rolled to a 73-40 victory over Herndon High School at home on Dec. 17. Later in the week the Titans hosted the Robinson Rams on Dec. 19. After a slow start, down 16-2 after the first quarter, T. C. started to rally. The Titans trailed 28-16 at halftime and 42-30 after three quarters before a breakout fourth quarter posting 23 points to the Rams 15. But Robinson prevailed winning 57-53.  The Titans’ top scorers were seniors Jaquan Johnson-Terry and Sean Walsh each with 12 points. The Titans win-loss record is currently 4-5. The T. C. varsity team is competing in the Henrico Holiday Hoops Tournament on Dec. 26-28. The JV boys are playing in a tournament at Gwynn Park High School on Dec. 27-28.

Girls Basketball
The No. 12-ranked Lady Titans (5-1) were not in action last week. The varsity girls are competing in the Title IX Classic Tournament at DC Armory on Dec. 27-29. The Lady Titans’ next regular season game is at Herndon High School on Jan. 4 (Fr 4:30 p.m., JV 5:45 p.m., Varsity 7:15 p.m.).

Indoor Track & Field
The T. C. Williams track and field team competed in the PR Holiday Invitational on Dec. 22. In sprint events, Titans finished 1-2 in the boys 55 meter dash, led by senior Ibrahim Bangura followed by junior Robert Longerbeam. The T. C. boys 4x200 meter relay team was edged out at the finish line by 0.14 seconds to South County. Sophomore Joshua Peterson took third place in long jump. For the T. C. girls, senior Nyla Ward finished second in the 55 meter dash and senior Louisa Obenwa took third place in 55 meter hurdles. In girls shot put, senior Courtney Holford finished second and senior Jailyn Sprinkle placed third. The T. C. track and field team competes next in the F.I.T. Invitational at Prince George’s Sportsplex on Dec. 26. The Titans’ next regular season meet against other local teams is at Episcopal High School / Flippin Fieldhouse on Jan. 5 (7:30 a.m.)

Swim & Dive
T. C. Swim/Dive squeezed out a narrow win in a dual meet against Falls Church High School on Dec. 21: Girls 165-147 and Boys 148-164 for a combined 313-311 victory. The Titans compete next against Yorktown at Mount Vernon Recreation Center, Fairfax County on Jan 4 (6:30 p.m.).

The T.C. Williams varsity squad competed in the SSSAS Holiday Classic at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes on Dec. 21. The Titans also competed in a tournament at Langley High School on Dec. 22.
