Starting today, people can get active on behalf of their favorite park to help it win money for improvements and the title of “America’s Favorite Park.”

Comcast, a global media and technology company, today unveiled the next generation of its cloud-enabled X1 Platform from Xfinity to further transform the TV into an interactive and integrated entertainment experience. This new platform release, known as X2, will be available to customers later this year. The technology was previewed today by Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian L. Roberts at NCTA’s The Cable Show 2013 in Washington, D.C. The company also showcased enhancements available today on its X1 Platform, including the addition of Web-based content.

Of the 12 vendors at this year’s Taste of Del Ray, Evening Star Café earned the judge’s top vote and Taqueria Poblano won the People’s Choice award. The Happy Tart and Cheesetique were the other award winners at the June 9 event.

Comcast is beginning to give its Xfinity Internet customers an additional "xfinitywifi" signal in their home that is completely separate and distinct from the family’s private and secure home WiFi signal. Offered at no additional cost to Xfinity Internet residential customers, the additional WiFi hotspots will enable friends, relatives, visitors and other Xfinity Internet customers instant, easy access to fast and reliable WiFi.

Alexandria City Council's consideration of food truck regulations, which was scheduled for the June 11, legislative meeting, has been deferred until the fall.

Congressman Jim Moran, Northern Virginia Democrat, applauded the settlement of a labor dispute that will result in payment of more than $300,000 in wages and benefits owed to nearly 70 janitors at Ft. Belvoir. Moran was a vocal supporter of the janitors, writing to Ft. Belvoir Base Commander Colonel Gregory D. Gadson in February calling for a resolution to the dispute and greater oversight in the base’s contracting. The contractor in question is Brown & Pipkins Acsential.

For the second consecutive year, Virginia Martial Arts Institute Inc., located at 512D South Van Dorn Street, has been selected for the 2013 Best of Alexandria Award in the Martial Arts Training category by the Alexandria Award Program.

Virginia American Water today announced the start of the second phase of a water main upgrade on Henry Street in Alexandria that will enhance water quality, improve service reliability and increase flows for fire protection. The total cost of the water system improvements is approximately $1.4 million.

The Comcast Foundation, founded in 1999 to provide charitable support to its local communities and to empower and enrich lives, is awarding 57 Virginia high school seniors scholarships through its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program.  The program, one of the Comcast Foundation’s signature community investment initiatives, recognizes students’ leadership skills, academic achievement and commitment to community service.
