SCAN named Erick T. King, Co-Founder of the Capital Youth Empowerment Program CYEP, as the 2012 Ally in Prevention for Alexandria. The award was given yesterday at SCAN's 10th Annual Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon, where 4 other individuals were also recognized from Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William.

The City of Alexandria named Rachel Alberts as the recipient of the 2012 Donna Bergheim Award at the 34th annual Salute to Women Monday night.

The T.C. Williams Crew Team kicked off the Spring 2012 Rowing season this past Saturday at the Dee Campbell Boathouse in Old Town with their first and only home regatta of the year – a scrimmage against longtime rival Washington & Lee that not only provided the Titan rowers with, in the words of Boy’s Head Coach Pete Stramese, “a good litmus test” to start the season, but left both Stramese and Girls Head Coach Mercedes Kiss feeling confident about the team’s prospects moving forward this spring.

On Wednesday, March 21, the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office held its annual employee awards ceremony to recognize sworn and civilian staff for their achievements and contributions, as well as recent promotions. The City’s Chief of Staff Bruce Johnson delivered the keynote speech before Sheriff Dana Lawhorne presented the following awards.

In a clash of preseason nationally ranked teams on Wednesday, March 14, Bishop Ireton came up short against Georgetown Visitation 10-6 in the Cardinals’ season opener at Fannon Field on Cambridge Road. According to ESPN’s national FAB 50 preseason poll released last week, Bishop Ireton is #40 and Georgetown Visitation is #21.
