T. C. Swim & Dive Claims District Runners-Up Title

January 31, 2018

The T. C. Swim & Dive team – both the girls and boys squads – took second place overall in the Gunston District Swim/Dive Championships on Jan. 26-27. The Titans’ finish as District Runners-Up is the highest placement for the team in decades. In total, 17 T. C. swimmers and four divers qualified for the upcoming regional championships.

Winter sports continue at T. C. Williams High School. All of the teams are in action this week. The Gunston District Championship takes place on Monday for gymnastics, Thursday/Saturday for indoor track & field, and Friday for wrestling. The regional swim/dive championship is on Friday/Saturday.

Olympic Medalist Amanda Weir To Conduct Swim Clinics

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities welcomes Olympic medalist Amanda Weir to Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility the weekend of Feb. 3-4. Weir will be conducting three age-appropriate swim clinics focusing on high performance techniques for efficient and fast swimming.

Bishop Ireton Cheerleaders Win Grand Champion Trophy

The Bishop Ireton cheerleaders swept the Christian Cheerleaders of America's Blue Ridge Classics Competition at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA over the weekend. With this win, the Cardinals received their bid to the CCA Nationals in March in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Six Athletes Inducted Into ACPS Hall Of Fame

January 22, 2018

Alexandria City Public Schools inducted six outstanding athletes into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Jan. 19, including a pioneer in women’s athletics who attended a segregated school and went on to become an ACPS principal of two integrated schools, a 37-year record holder in the two-mile run, and an oarsman who became a decorated veteran and commander of the Navy’s legendary Blue Angels.

Cardinals Defend Title As City Wrestling Champions

The Bishop Ireton Cardinals retained their title as the Alexandria City Wrestling Champions, winning for the third consecutive year. In the annual showdown with the four area high schools – Bishop Ireton, Episcopal, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes, and T. C. Williams – the Cardinals came out on top in all three head-to-head competitions to capture the 2018 Alexandria City Championship title on Jan. 15.
