Virginia On-Time Graduation Rate Tops 91 Percent

The Virginia Department of Education announced last week that over nine out of ten students, or 91.3%, who entered the ninth grade in 2012 earned a diploma within four years, compared with 90.5% of the 2015 cohort. Eight of ten, or 82%, of T. C. Williams High School students who entered high school four years ago earned a diploma in 2016.

T.C. Williams High School senior Sierra Arnold has been named as a semifinalist in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Corporation program. She is among 16,000 talented semifinalists who will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.

Syrian Man Affiliated With Syrian Electronic Army Pleads Guilty

Peter Romar, 37, a Syrian national affiliated with the Syrian Electronic Army, pleaded guilty today to felony charges of conspiring to receive extortion proceeds and conspiring to unlawfully access computers. Romar was previously extradited from Germany on request of the United States.
