Marge Beatley, the widow of long time Alexandria Mayor Chuck Beatley, passed away on Sept. 17, after a long life of service to our community.

In addition to supporting her husband in myriad civic ventures, she served as President of Alexandria Hospital’s TWIG, a PTA president and an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.  She played lots of tennis and loved her bridge groups.  Between Marge, Donna Bergheim and Dottie Wheeler, Maury Lane became the place for Democratic get-togethers and fund raisers.

After Chuck passed away, she eventually moved to Goodwin House, where she spent many wonderful years with her good and devoted friend Milton Jobe.

She is survived by her three children, Beth Doran, Chris Beatley and Tim Beatley and their spouses. Her grandchildren Zach, Stephanie, Lauren, Christopher, Carolina, Jadie and great-grandson Zachary will greatly miss her.

A memorial service and reception will be held Goodwin House, 4800 Fillmore Avenue, Alexandria, on Monday, October 13 at 3:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Beatley Central Library at 5005 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22304.  Cards may be sent to:  The Beatley Family,1401 North Pegram Street, Alexandria, VA  22304.
