On Tuesday November 18, community members braved the cold winds to fete Cathy Puskar, the 2014 Patron Saint Award recipient for the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA). At Los Tios Grill on Mt Vernon Avenue, Ms. Puskar was lightly roasted by fellow T.C. Williams alumnus and SFA Board Member Art Schmalz and event sponsor Jack Taylor.

The festive affair commemorated nearly two decades of leadership during which time Ms. Puskar served nine years as a board member including as Chair, and she was also thrice the Co-Chair of the SFA Spring Gala Committee. Ms. Puskar is individually credited with fundraising efforts which yielded $425,000, akin to 170 need-based scholarships for T.C. graduates. Ms. Puskar joins a select group of 60 transformative individuals and groups honored as SFA Patron Saints since 1988.

“Cathy exemplifies the commitment to this organization befitting the title of Patron Saint. As an alumna of T.C. Williams High School, she has maintained her ties to the school by supporting the dreams of future graduates through scholarships to college,” said SFA’s Board Chair Cindy Anderson.

Ms. Puskar, a graduate of T.C. Williams High School, the College of William and Mary and The George Washington University Law School, practices real estate law at the firm of Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley & Walsh, an event sponsor.

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization providing merit- and need-based scholarships and financial aid advising to Alexandria City Public School Students.  Since 1986, SFA has awarded $11 million in scholarships, making college dreams come true for 4,000 students.  In 2014 alone, 364 students received $900,000 in scholarships.
