This award reflects Encore Stage & Studio’s status as a highly effective local nonprofit, working to build a life-long appreciation for live theatre by involving young people in all aspects of theater arts — onstage, backstage, in the classroom, and in the audience.

“It is an honor to be chosen as part of the upcoming Catalogue for Philanthropy,” says Sara Duke, Encore Stage & Studio Executive Director. “We have been sharing the magic of theatre with children in our community for almost 50 years. This distinction recognizes the incredible impact we’ve had on the hundreds of thousands of children and their families who have attended a performance or participated in our programs since our founding. We are excited to share our mission with the entire DC region.”

The 2014/2015 edition is the 12th annual Catalogue for Philanthropy, which has, since 2003, connected caring citizens with worthy community causes and raised more than $24 million for featured nonprofits. Encore Stage & Studio was also featured in the 2010/2011 Catalogue. The Catalogue's vetting process is rigorous: members of a 125-person review team, made up of foundations, corporations, peer nonprofits and the philanthropic advisory community, evaluate charities on the basis of program impact and fiscal soundness and each featured charity is visited on-site by at least one member of the review team.
