Greg Murphy, the man accused of murdering eight-year-old Kevin Shifflett in Alexandria in April, 2000, will remain hospitalized at Central State Hospital. Murphy was found not competent to stand trial for that murder in 2000 and has never been restored to competency.

On Oct. 29, Murphy appeared in court in Alexandria for a periodic review of his competency. At that time, attorneys for Murphy asked that the charges be dismissed because it was unlikely that Murphy would ever stand trial. The attorneys also asked that Murphy be released from the hospital.

A judge has now ruled that Murphy will remain at Central State Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia, to continue receiving treatment. The case will be reviewed again on April 30, 2015.
