NOVA Institute For Public Service To Host Post-Election Conference

The NOVA Institute for Public Service at the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will host a Post-Election Conference on Nov. 5. The conference will feature several panelists who will provide analysis of the 2014 midterm election results from the state, local and national perspective. Panelists will be joined by NOVA faculty and speak in front of an audience of students and community leaders. This is the third post-election conference hosted by the NOVA Institute for Public Service since 2012.

The scheduled program is as follows:

9:30 a.m. – Welcome

  • Dr. Jim McClellan, liberal arts division dean at NOVA-Alexandria

9:35 a.m. – Introduction of Keynote Speaker

  • Meredith S. H. Aquila, NOVA-Alexandria professor of communication studies and theatre

9:40 a.m. – Keynote Speech

  • The Honorable Thomas M. Davis III, former Virginia congressman and chairman of the House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform

9:55 a.m. – Political Geography Presentation

  • David Miller, NOVA-Alexandria assistant professor of geography

10 a.m. – State and Local Politics

  • Dr. Jack Lechelt, NOVA-Alexandria professor of political science
  • Alfonso H. Lopez, Virginia House of Delegates, D-49th District
  • Victoria Ross, Fairfax County reporter at “The Connection Newspapers”

10:45 a.m. – Break

11 a.m. – National Politics

  • Dr. William Miller, Marymount University professor of politics
  • Dr. Jennifer Sayasithsena, NOVA-Annandale associate professor of political science
  • Marcin Wrona, journalist and correspondent at TVN (Poland) USA
  • Dave McConnell, Capitol Hill correspondent at WTOP
