Last Saturday, June 28, 2014  many people including Mayor Euille and Councilman Chapman were at Hopkins Tancil for the annual Ruby Tucker Day which showcased the many activities the resource center hosts throughout the year ranging from the display of partner booths to youth performances.

The annual event is yet another opportunity for families to come together and celebrate the many accomplishments that the Ruby Tucker Center staff have created and facilitated for residents to realize their unlimited potential to achieve, enjoy enrichment activities and experience cultural excursions.

Ruby Tucker was an inspiration to many here in Alexandria because of her tireless fight for affordable housing for the African American community. Tucker had served on the ARHA Board of Commission paving the way for other African American women such as Michelle Chapman and MichelleMilben.

Youth from the center performed their published poetry which was the result of a collaboration between the ARHA's Ruby Tucker Center and theDreamdog Foundation. The book of poetry is entitled Hope and can be purchased at ARHA's main office at 600 North Fairfax Street in Old Town.

For more information about the activities at the Center please contact Program Director, Jason Ellis or Program Coordinator, Gaynelle Diaz at 703.549.7115 or visit ARHA website at
