T. C. Boys Advance To Regional Cross Country Championship

The T. C. Williams High School boys’ cross country team captured fourth place in the Patriot Conference Championships on Oct. 30, advancing to the regional championship for the first time in more than 15 years. The T. C. team includes some seasoned varsity runners and some newcomers.

Leading the Titans was senior Anteneh Girma who took fourth place overall with a new personal best time of 15:06 on this three-mile course at Burke Lake Park. Junior Alex Heimberg, a first-year competitor, finished 15th rounding out the top individual medal winners. Also scoring for the Titans were senior Ben Thomas, sophomore Jack Mackey and junior Grant Chamberlain. Sophomore Sam Lally and junior Eric Folkerts also competed for T. C. See meet results here.

Lake Braddock won the boys team championship with 22 points. West Springfield took second place with 58 points followed by W. T. Woodson in third with 96 points and T. C. Williams in fourth with 107 points. These four teams will represent the Patriot Conference at the regional championship.

For the T. C. girls, freshman Gloria Reed was the top finisher for the Titans, competing for the first time on this course and finishing 18th. Senior captain Hannah Smythe crossed the finish line next for T. C. Williams followed by sophomore Sophia Vassallo, junior Celeste Claudio and sophomore Savannah Halabuk. Senior Jessica Seidenberg and sophomore Lucy Brinkman also competed for the Titans.

Lake Braddock won the girls team championship scoring a low 19 points. South County finished second with 70 points followed by West Springfield with 75 points and West Potomac in fourth with 91 points.

The top four teams in each of the five conference championships along with the top 15 individual finishers in each conference qualify for the regional championship. The northern region is a known powerhouse with some of the most competitive teams and leading individual runners in the state. The 6A North Region Championship is at Burke Lake Park on Nov. 5 (3:15 p.m.).
