T. C. Williams High School sent a cross country runner to the Foot Locker National Championship for only the second time in school history and not since the inaugural competition in 1979. On Dec. 13, senior Anteneh Girma ran shoulder to shoulder with 40 of the best runners in the country at the 35th anniversary National Championship at Balboa Park in San Diego. Girma, who finished 33rd with a time of 16:19, was one of ten runners representing the 16-state South region after finishing sixth at the regional qualifier in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 29. Virginia had seven athletes qualify for Nationals – four boys and three girls – and two earned All-American honors. The top boy finisher, junior Andrew Hunter (Loudoun Valley High School), took fourth place at Foot Locker Nationals. In the girls’ race, sophomore Libby Davidson from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg finished sixth.
