After winning the Patriot Conference Championship last Friday, the Titans entered the regional soccer tournament as a top seed facing No. 4 Patriot High School from Cedar Run Conference 8. After a missed open-goal opportunity by the Pioneers in the opening minutes, the Titans tightened down and got to work. Sophomore Kevin Nunez drilled a shot from 30 yards out for T.C.’s first goal in the fourth minute of the game.  Senior Willy Miezen worked through Patriot defenders to put the Titans up 2-0 just 16 minutes into the game. Less than five minutes later, senior Lloyd Kebede scored on a header to extend the lead. At the 30 minute mark, junior midfielder Ramsey Benzina scored again, putting the Titans ahead 4-0 at half time.

In the early minutes of the second half, senior captain Hector Alvarado found an opening and scored again for the Titans. With a comfortable lead, the T. C. coaches worked in a rotation of players off the bench, including all three reserve goalkeepers. At about 20 minutes left in the game, Matias Hendi chipped the ball to Miezen on the right sideline, who maneuvered past the goalkeeper to score the sixth and final goal for the Titans. Their overall win-loss record now stands at 14-2.

T. C. Williams advances to the regional quarterfinals against No. 2 seed McLean High School who defeated Herndon (1-0) in the opening round. The Titans' next game is at home on Friday, May 30 (5:00 p.m.). Admission: $7
